Day 29 - Things I Will Not Miss about Viet Nam

Image
I made a list of things I will not miss and it is literally three things I wont miss. Turns out I won't miss much about Vietnam at all. • Waiting for my mom for two hours in cloths stores. • Having to wake up early to go to school. Sometimes I fall asleep at breakfast. I always beg my mom for more minutes. • And last but not least, drinking thuα»‘c bΓ‘c. It still tastes like tar even though I don't know what tar taste like. At least I don't have to do that anymore.

Day 27 - Top Ten Things I Will Miss About Vietnam

Image
Hey, guys and galls I am back and I only have four days until I leave Vietnam. I already miss Vietnam. Here are the top ten things I will miss about Vietnam (in no particular order).  I loved all the fresh fruits, especially drinking coconut juice from the coconut! Wish I could bring the warm beach with me back to the US. I want to take the flying fish we saw too. I will miss my Shaman training and hangout out at temple of the Shaman's family. Breakfast in our neighborhood alleyway. I will especially miss the veggie omelet sandwich.  I will miss taking cool transportation everywhere.  Ms. Hong, my teacher., because she is awesome. She helps me out a lot with my school work. We even have the same necklace!  My mom never lets me drink soft drinks in the US. But she let me drink in Vietnam because I told her it will help drink the bitter thuoc bac. I will not miss thuoc bac, but I will miss Pepsi. After two weeks of begging, my

Day 25 - Thay Boi (Fortune Teller)

Image
Hey, guys and gals. I'm back ✌✋and I am two days behind my blogging. So I have to catch up tonight. So, I went to a ThαΊ§y BΓ³i which is known as a fortune teller. πŸ‘³The ThαΊ§y BΓ³i was a woman but the Emoji I have now is the only one that is some man with the turban. I also am practicing to use Vietnamese font. It's soooo cool. Anyway, my mom got some really nice fruits for her altar. It's tradition to bring things to people's home when you visit them. So, since we were going to shrine, she brought fruits for the ancetors and gods. My mom was there for research but the ThαΊ§y BΓ³i read my fortune. I din't like what she had to say about my future. My mom told me that if your will is strong enough, you can make your own future. I know I'll be someone great, like an architect, so I don't care. My mom told me I have to work hard to make my own destiny. She means more homework. Not sure I can do that. After the ThαΊ§y BΓ³i did the fortune for me, I fell asleep. I'

Day 26 - Motorcycle Adventure

Image
Whats up guys I am back and I had a huge adventure today (oh,  come on, I have hiccups just right now, who cares!). So, the trip was awesome and I had so much fun. In the morning I had to drink my medicine YUCK!! After I took the medicine I went down stairs to Vinmart (like convenience store) and bought an apple BY MYSELF with my allowance! Soon after that my mom and I rode around on the moped looking for a food place. We ended up at a place called Rock pizza because I was in a mood for "American" food. My mom ordered a "small" hamburger that looked like a slider. The Vietnamese pronounce it "ham buh gah". We shared the two dishes. It was so good. We then went back to my mom's favorite cloths store in Ha Long where her friend is the shop owner. We ordered drinks. I ordered pinneaple juice and my mom order coffee with an egg inside. I didn't know what it was so I tried it. It tasted like caramel, pretty good. I didn't know an egg in coffee

Day 24 - I Slept All Day...Almost

Image
Yo guys what's up? Today I slept like 14 hours. I had afternoon class so my mom let me sleep in. I had breakfast after lunch :D. School was fun. I missed my teacher so it was good to see her. When my mom picked me up, she wanted to eat seafood again. She got me something fried. It was pretty good.  The owner of the seafood stand was feeding his baby while it was on the phone. That's weird, right? Then we went home and binged watched Avatar. I remember a lot of it even though I watched it many years ago. My favorite character is Aang. I like him because he's the Avatar and has been through so much but still fights the fire nation. Also, I had to take thuoc bac medicine all day today. I have to admit, I'm getting really good at it. It still tastes so bad but I can do it now. My mom calls me her thuoc bac hero because I can drink it like a boss. After dinner we went for tofu dessert. I don't like it so my mom finished mine. I also ran into a friend at my sch

Day 23 - Visiting a Village and Temple of Thai Thuong Lao Quan

Image
Okay, I'm back. I did a lot of stuff today. We took a long trip to the temple of Thai Thuong Lao Quan. He's the highest being and father off all things. I went on a fancy bus as you can see in the photo. Those are my friends, Viet and Phuc. After we got to the temple I bowed 10 times. Me and my friends went to the farm area and played around. I got dirty and soon we started to throw huge rocks in a mucky river. I found a wooden plank that was broken and looked like a spear. Viet found some butterfly eggs and two butterflies. I'm not going to say what she did to them, oh fine, she killed them.  πŸ˜‘πŸ˜πŸ’€She said the eggs will turn to caterpillars and eat the leaves. So, ya, she stomped on the eggs and butterflies. I was shocked. We then went home and my mom made me delicious ramen noodle and salmon. She also got this fruit called, breast milk (vu sua). It taste like all the fruits I've ever tasted put together. Pretty good stuff.

Day 22 - Another Temple Day

Image
Hey guys me is back and I am blogging to you guys and I had lots of fun today. We had at special ceremony at temple today. The Shaman is the medium and for the lunar calendar, the 10th prince will come and possess him. I actually saw the prince who was wearing yellow and and two yellow dragons flying around him. The prince read people's fortunes. He told me spirit will help me with my mission in life. I was surprised. I thought if the shaman is possessed by the 10th prince he must have been out of his body and in the realm of spirits/ the spirit realm. Rest of the time I had fun with friends at temple. I got permission to go out and buy candy again with my allowance with them. I was getting really hot because of running around because of body heat playing with friends. At dinner we went to eat with the Shaman's family and friends and got seafood (seafood is really good in Halong) :D. I got home and had to cook my medicine/thuoc bac with my mom. I wanted to watch Gremlin

Day 21 - Rainy Day (Last Day in Hanoi)

Image
Hey guys! I AM bacK and cold as heck because the rain. On the last day of Hanoi, my mom got me up early to go to a meeting at a cafe shop on Hoan Kiem Lake (aka Restored Sword Lake). She told me that the lake has a legend. Long ago, King Le Loi was boating on the lake when a turtle god asked him for his sword. This sword was given to him by the dragon god to defeat the Chinese. So, King Le Loi went on one more battle before returning the sword to the turtle king. I wonder if the turtle god still lives at the lake. The lake looks a little dirty. Then my mom left me in the rain because she ran off to get some last minute stuff for the small travel alter and the big ceremony in Halong. Before that my mom was interviewed in an old coffee shop. There we went all the way to the roof. It was totally scary climbing up the narrow stairs and the rain got me too. When they interviewed my mom, I played Merge Tower Bots and got a robot that looked like Medusa. After that my mom made me walk

Day 20 - Halloween in Hanoi

Image
Hey guys, I am heading back to Ha Long tomorrow and totally tired, but still have to blog to you guys. So, today was Halloween in Vietnam and I had an awesome time. I got my costume all in Pho Co/Old Quarters in Hanoi. I dressed as a grim reaper and was looked at by many people and kids. I wore an ao dai, a skull mask, and held scythe as part as the costume. We actually got the mask in the morning after I got my ao dai was shortened by a local seamstress. We had cha ca/fish sausage and noodles for lunch in a really famous cha ca place. I think it’s like 100 years old or something. Then we had to pick of tickets for the closing of Vietnam Fashion Week. My mom teaches about fashion. On the way back we have ice-scream at the well known Kem Trang Tien. My mom said when she was there in 1993, they had popcicles on a stick, and when people finished eating the icecream, they would throw the sticks on the ground. A worker would come and pick up the sticks and wash it to make more. My mo
