Day 18 - First Day in Ha Noi


Hey guys it's me Pilot Ninja 6, thats my name from War Robots.

Today I went to Hanoi. It took 2 hours too get to Hanoi and the mini van that I was in was fancy with wifi. But, it was so bumpy like a roller coaster ride because they had bad suspension. How dumb is that?

We are staying in this place call Pho Co/Old Quarters. Every street has a special name depending on what they are selling. We are on Hang Giay/Show Street. They use to sell shoes here a long time ago. Now they sell CANDY! How lucky am I. I hope my mom lets me buy some.

When we go to our AirBnB, we had literally 30 seconds to get ready because my mom's friend was picking us up to go to a meeting. He runs the largest ecotourism company in Southeast Asia. They talked a lot then he took us to another meeting. The meeting was at an ao dai shop again, because my mom had to interview the designer. Her other friend, a silversmith, Bac Lien, was also there.

I thought I was going to be bored so I started drawing. But, then it turns out the designers son is also 10 so the owners took me to him. He spoke English really well so I could talk to him. His family is from Spain but they have lived in Viet Nam forever so they know Vietnamese too. We watched videos on Youtube and laughed because we were watching funny stuff.

Well, after I left my friend, we had to get dinner. Dinner was pretty good because I had scrambled eggs, fish, and rice. Then my mom's friend took her to her friend's shop to look for things for the alter. My mom got a few small things and I found the smallest Tran Hung Dao statue they had. We are going to add him to our altar at home because he was my commander in my past life.

See you in a week or more. Lots is happening here for me every day, but seems lots more is happening where you guys are. Is everyone okay with the blackouts and fires? I saw online that a bridge in the Bay Area is on fire and maybe burned down I think. That is the bridge my mom uses to get to her college because she is a professor at UC Davis. When I return, we may all be out of school still because smoke and fires. Ha Noi pollution is bad but you may have it worst with smoke in the Bay Area. Day Six - A Normal Day in Ha Long Bay

October 16, 2019 Ahoy seagulls, wait, no, you are land dwellers. Har har har. Well yee day was normal and I am going to get back to normal talking instead pirate language. For breakfast we went to some food stalls in an alley way near my school. I had banh bao (steamed bread stuffed with meats and eggs), vegetarian scrambled eggs, cha gio (pork sausage), xoi (sticky rice), and ice tea – all Vietnamese food I love. When my mom went to pay, it all cost only $1.50!! I was surprised that it did not cost a lot at all. Then I had to go to the place where I get tutored. Normally it is for 3 hours or more but now because I get my work done faster, I can leave after 2 hours. Today it rained so I couldn't go swimming. So, my mom went to get me a chess set and paper to draw instead. At the supply store I saw Halloween stuff. My mom was right, they do celebrate Halloween in Vietnam. Day Three - The Market

October 13, 2019 The Market  This morning Co  Oanh and Bi came to see us ( wife and son of the Shaman) . We were hungry, so they took us to have  banh cuon  for breakfast, it is  some sort of rice dish with meat. I had it many times before. It was pretty good here, especially cha lua ( fish patty)  that came with it. But, I think it was made of squid instead, cha muc. Then we went to a coffee shop. We were there for a LOOOONG time because my mom ordered filter drip coffee and it takes forever to drip (see pix). I didn't mind because Bi knows a lot of kids in the neighborhood and we hung out playing miniature pool and even crossed the street by ourselves to meet with other kids.  After breakfast we went to the market to get ingredients to make lunch.  The market was crazy because people drove TANKS in there. LOL Okay, just kidding, why would they do that? It is still crazy though, because instead of tanks, they drove mopeds and motorbikes...

Heading Back to Ha Long Bay

I am going to Ha Long Bay with my mother. She is a professor that is researching in Vietnam. I will learn about the history of the Bay. I know that there are high levels of pollution there. I saw it last time I went to Ha Long. I will try to learn more about the environment and try to help with clean up. My mother will be working with a Shaman who is a spiritual healer. I sometimes think I have special powers too. For instance, I can sometimes see spirits an channel the dead. Ha Long Bay is a magical place with many spiritual wonders. I can hardly wait to go again. I will go swimming every day if I finish my homework from Ms. Chan. I wish this was a vacation with no homework but it sadly is :( At least I can blog to you dudes and dudettes of the fun I am having. This was a picture of me when I was in Ha Long Bay at 8 years old.
